COP27: Safeguarding Indigenous Peoples from the adverse impacts of climate finance projects

This side event at COP27, co-hosted by the Center for International Environmental Law (CIEL), the Indigenous Peoples' International Centre for Policy Research and Education (Tebtebba) and the Independent Redress Mechanism (IRM) discussed how Indigenous Peoples have been impacted by large-scale climate finance projects, and how grievance accountability entities like the IRM have helped provide recourse to Indigenous Peoples and others who have been affected by development projects.

IRM Community-Company Mediation Training: Equatania Fictional Complaint Case

This video was used as a case study during the IRM's virtual course on “Company-community mediation in complex environments." The course introduced participants to the fundamentals of company community mediation – analyzing conflicts and/or challenges and the range of possible approaches to resolving them; developing clearer and more constructive mediation mandates; better monitoring and evaluation of individual mediations; and continuous learning from experiences for systemic improvement.
